International Guild of Masters
The International Guild of Masters (IGM) is the èlite professional section of the World Martial Arts Council, the role of which is to provide the technical expertise necessary to maintain the highest standards of martial art instruction and education. Successful applicants, who must be eighteen years of age or over, will be entered into the WorldMAC Mentor Scholarship Programme in order to complete compulsory courses and obtain the certificates necessary to become a World Martial Arts Council professional instructor and member of the prestigious International Guild of Masters. The first of these is the induction process, part of which requires all applicants to produce a record of personal details, educational qualifications, past employment, martial arts history, achievements, grades and any titles awarded. This record must be supported by letters, references, certificates or other acceptable evidence such as research papers, media reports, photographs or published works. The induction process covers distance and modular learning from foundation to doctorate levels, teaching and assessing, all aspects of officiating, student exchanges with overseas members, business and marketing, event organising, legal issues and requirements, licensing and insurance, personal development, the technical and academic programmes of the WorldMAC Academy and selected universities both in the United Kingdom and overseas, future career and investment opportunities, and the ongoing projects of the World Martial Arts Council.
Following successful completion of the WorldMAC Mentor Scholarship Programme, there are two levels of registration, both of which necessitate integrity, objectivity, competence, high performance and courtesy. All new registrations are normally admitted as Associates who become Fellows either after completing advanced courses and training programmes over a period of not less than three years, or following five consecutive years of activity, a period that may be reduced if members are considered eligible due to existing status or past achievements. All those registered are authorized to annex to their names distinctive letters indicative of their class of registration which are Associate of the International Guild of Masters (AIGM) and Fellow of the International Guild of Masters (FIGM). Such designatory letters may only be used by persons in possession of a valid certificate awarded on acceptance and then annually, or when the class of registration changes.
Those registered share many benefits which include international recognition, places on national and international committees or technical boards if required, financial rewards for all aspects of officiating, teaching, and examining, travel and accommodation expenses when necessary, access to restricted areas of the website pertaining to level of registration, payment for professional services not connected with the martial arts when required, full media exposure for individuals and groups, subsidised production costs of any demonstration or teaching aids, free WorldMAC International Licence, gold and silver wire blazer badge and certification, and discounts on many goods and services.
All official IGM members are automatically placed on an agency register unless they request otherwise, and are fully paid for their services. The role of the agency is to provide recognized instructors for all martial arts when requested by groups, sporting bodies, schools, colleges, universities or other institutions that require teaching services for regular lessons, courses or specialized seminars. In addition, qualified examiners can be provided to conduct grading examinations, judging, refereeing and assessing courses leading to internationally recognized certification. Those registered in the capacity of qualified judges or referees will also be available for tournaments involving any martial art at local, regional, national or international levels. This ensures organisers have sufficient officials not connected in any way with participants, and do not have to rely on those sending competitors to offer their services, which often results in biased decisions. The agency ensures all registered members are fully qualified and insured, hold all the necessary certificates required by law, and attend any courses specifically designed to provide continuous education, updates on legal requirements and the periodic renewal of certificates. The monthly fees outlined below cover the cost of all WorldMAC courses and seminars, which are compulsory in order to remain active, not only within the International Guild of Masters, but also on the agency listings.
*Please note financial rewards are determined by the class of registration
All applicants must submit an application form together with the stipulated non-returnable processing fee, and on acceptance enter into a contract to pay the relevant monthly subscription.
