Recognition Through Validation & Accreditation

The World Martial Arts Council has formed a partnership with a British university in order to validate coaching awards, regulate teaching standards, establish levels of competence and develop courses leading to academic martial arts qualifications.  Every martial arts group now has the opportunity to obtain validation for its training syllabus, courses, grades and awards, whilst individual martial artists are able to obtain university accredited qualifications at foundation, certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and degree levels.  As these are distance learning programmes they are accessible to all students both in the United Kingdom and overseas, and may be studied on a full or part-time basis without the need to attend the university.  A requirement for groups seeking validation or individuals wishing to study for accredited qualifications is they must first register with the World Martial Arts Council.  Following registration and receipt of registration numbers, groups must have their syllabus converted to a modular training format validated by the World Martial Arts Council and accredited by the university, whilst individual martial arts students may include any validated evidence based training, courses, grades and awards as Applied Prior Learning (APL) when enrolling for university study programmes.  There is no requirement to be registered with other organizations and any current affiliations will not be affected.

  David MacIntyre Sensei

It is with great sadness we have to announce the untimely death of David MacIntyre aged 53 from Gorton, Manchester.  David was one of the early pioneers of the World Martial Arts Council and, with his wife and family, played an important role in the regional competitions at St. Helens during the late 1990s.  For the last seven years he endeavoured to continue his education at a higher level with the Open University and was awarded various degrees.  He was truely inspirational to everyone that came into contact with him and in his memory the World Martial Arts Council will commission a weapons trophy that will be awarded annually at the WorldMAC Games to the most outstanding competitor in the weapons section of the competition.  Our thoughts are with his wife Julie and son David, and the World Martial Arts Council will support his son who will continue to teach and ensure the tremendous efforts and work of his father remain accessible for all future generations.

Martial Arts Workshops

The WorldMAC Alliance is to stage a number of martial arts workshops arranged in conjunction with the prestigious annual Battle of Britain Quest for Champions Tournament in Manchester.  These will be available to males and females of all ages throughout the event.  The objective of these workshops is to provide people with an opportunity to sample a variety of martial arts, and understand the many benefits available through such training programmes.  Apart from the obvious benefits of health, fitness, self-defence and confidence, the martial arts can provide solutions to the social problems of obesity, bullying, boredom, anger, frustration, gang culture and related criminal activity.  All martial arts instruction demands concentration, self-discipline and respect for others, which sadly are attributes often absent in modern society.  Many people from a diversity of economic and cultural backgrounds have managed to attain national and international acclaim through personal achievement within the martial arts, and for many years, organizations and instructors have advocated martial arts tuition should be included in the national curriculum for schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions.

All martial arts workshops will be staged under guidelines specified by local councils, and will be conducted by fully qualified instructors that have the necessary certificates and comply with all legal requirements.  The workshops will bring all martial arts organizations together, and provide an opportunity to promote their activities and obtain new members. At the same time, these will also introduce the general public to training programmes offering a path to personal achievement and success in all aspects of everyday life.  There will also be later opportunities for people to attend extended workshops and training seminars at a variety of locations throughout the United Kingdom and overseas, where instruction will be under the strict supervision of members of the International Guild of Masters, which is the professional body of the World Martial Arts Council.

* Details of dates and times for the workshops will appear in the Events Section.
