UNIVERSITY MARTIAL ARTS TEAM CHALLENGE

The University Martial Arts Team Challenge is a prestigious annual semi-contact martial arts competition between universities and university colleges.  There is no limit on the number of teams that can be entered by a university or college, but each must consist of five male and two female competitors who must be either students or tutors engaged on full or part-time courses at the university or college they represent.  The format of the event has been designed to include all martial art practitioners engaged in the pursuit of academic qualifications, and semi-contact competitions can be entered by anyone engaged in karate, tae-kwon-do, kung-fu, kickboxing, freestyle or muay thai practice, all of which are easily adapted to semi-contact events.

Team members will receive first, second or third place medals; there will be special awards for the best male and female competitor; outstanding fighters will be selected for the WorldMAC National Teams and be fully sponsored to represent their country at international events.  The winning team will be declared ‘University Martial Arts Team Champions’ for the year of participation, and their university or college name will be engraved on the WorldMAC University Martial Arts Challenge Trophy for the appropriate year.

These annual competitions are open to all European universities; the rules and weight categories are those stipulated below by the WMAC Executive Board; all events will end with an evening of presentations, demonstrations and cultural entertainment; and the World Martial Arts Council will endeavour to arrange full media coverage throughout.  These events are unique to the World Martial Arts Council, and will become the largest inter-university events throughout Europe.

All officials have been trained by the World Martial Arts Council; are internationally recognized and fully qualified; have no connection with, or interest in, any participating universities or colleges; and are totally fair and unbiased.  These events will become the largest annual sporting activity on the academic calendar, and to represent a university or college should be considered an exceptional honour that could lead to opportunities at international level.
