Level 1 Health & Safety: Foundation in Health & Safety
For all staff and volunteers.

Aims
- This course will equip you with fundamental occupational Health & Safety knowledge and an appreciation of the essentials of good Health & Safety practice.
Objectives
By the end of this workshop coaches will have knowledge of:
Theory
- Identify health & safety requirements placed on employers and employees.
- Describe the difference between a hazard and risk and identify the main causes of harm to staff.
- Identify health, safety and welfare provisions in the workplace.
- Describe the importance of following safe systems of work, procedures and rules.
- Identify hazards and controls in respect to both safety and occupational health risks.
- Describe how their own actions can reduce risks to health and safety.
Practical
- Fill in a basic risk assessment of an everyday task.
Level 2 Health & Safety: Certificate in Health & Safety
For team and department leaders and club instructors.
Duration: 3 hours
Aims
- This course will add to the Level 1 course in raising your awareness of occupational health & safety knowledge and build on the essentials of good health & safety practice.
- This course will also help in making instructors/supervisors more aware of their role in ensuring compliance of the regulations by others.
Objectives
By the end of this workshop coaches will have knowledge of:
Theory
- Describe the terminology used in respect of health & safety, and the benefits of ensuring high standards of health & safety in the workplace.
- Describe the principles of risk assessment and its role in a health & safety management system.
- Describe how to identify and control common workplace hazards.
- Identify the requirements for welfare provision in the workplace.
- Describe how to promote a positive health & safety culture.
- Identify the importance of consultation and good communication on health & safety.
- Identify the need to keep records relating to health & safety matters.
- Identify the role of training in motivating safe behaviour and adherence to health & safety procedures.
- Describe the supervisor’s role in ensuring compliance with legal and organisational requirements with respect to health & safety.
Practical
- Complete a risk assessment of a manual handling task in own club/place of work.
- Identify how their own club/place of work meets the requirements for welfare provision in the workplace and show how improvements would be implemented, if required.
Level 3 Health & Safety: Managing and Risk Assessing Health & Safety
For heads of organisations, clubs or associations and health & safety representatives.
Duration: 6 hours
Aims
- This course will add to Level 1 and 2 courses in raising awareness of occupational health & safety knowledge and build on the essentials of good health & safety practice.
- This course will also help in making heads of departments and health & safety representatives more aware of their role in ensuring compliance of the regulations by others.
Objectives
By the end of this workshop coaches will have knowledge of:

- Identify who the employers have a duty to, under the Health and Safety Act 1974, and how far these duties go.
- Identify at what level employers are required to have a written risk assessment.
- Identify the main duties employees have in regard to health & safety.

- Identify the cost of poor health & safety to employers.
- Describe the benefits of employers consulting employees.
